The native constant working but not the Mtlx
Am I doing something wrong?

It's most likely due to using the Karma Material builder instead of the USD Mtlx Builder. The Karma builder allows nodes that are not part of mtlx and so can't map directly to the viewport shader--it requires translation to a usd preview surface. Most nodes won't translate to USD preview surface, such as the mtlx constant node. The native constant node isn't a node at all, it creates an input connection to the material.
