Technical Discussion » Why no data in Geometry Spreadsheet about Primitive Normals?

Soothsayer
I think it's calculated on the fly but I might be wrong. prim_normal() can access it.
Thanks Soothsayer.
I think it's important to have this data available on the Geometry Spreadsheet, at least there is an option to show it.
Because it's difficult to troubleshoot the error (if any) with no data.
I spent more than 3 hours to find a solution to reverse the flipped Primitive Normals because you can't group it procedurally.

And why when adding "reverse" node (in U) after the flipped Primitive normals it get reversed? why U? isn't U for UVs?
Sorry I am new to Houdini.

Hi,
If it's data on every Primitive why there is no data showing on the Geometry Spreadsheet?

DaJuice
You can also hit Tab in the viewport and apply a Group SOP (or other SOPs) from there. It will fill in your current selection.
Yes that's correct!
But not in the network tab!

I have the same issue with Houdini 18.5.532
Snapping is not working on the same object (with point snap) but ok with other objects.

Not working for me.
Is it still ongoing issue?
Or is it only working if you manually input a value?

Or at least you can copy the Primitive numbers so you can input them in the Group Node?

Hi,
How do you group selected faces with Group Node?
The Group Node needs an input but what if you already selected the faces and don't want to lose the selection and want to group it to do further operation?
In this case before you create the Group Node.
Any trick to do this?

vusta
here, in the else part put this in:else: geo = display.geometry() pivot = geo.boundingBox().minvec() pivot[0]=0 pivot[2]=0
(ie. get minvec then set x,z components to 0)
I'm not a coder so will not accept responsibility if you blow up your 'puter..
This method isn't working anymore don't know why.
Anyone have a fix?
